Is this the
Greatest Fishing Story Ever told?

Fishermen Catch the Darndest Things

Blake Robinson hauled in a keeper mackinaw trout and quickly gutted it, while ice fishing from the Flaming Gorge Reservoir.  He was more than a little shocked to discover a human thumb in the fish's belly!!!  Turns out the thumb belonged to Utah resident Robert Lindsay, who lost it in a boating accident the year before.  Preserved in the near freezing water, Lindsay's thumb was most likely mistaken by the trout to be an oversized grub worm.  Luckily, the thumb was retrieved before the fish's stomach acids could digest the unusual meal!  Read more about this and other fish stories in Shaun Morey's book Incredible Fishing Stories, Vol. I available at your local bookstore or click here!

"World's Deadliest Fly - the Booby"
Booby flies are one of the strangest looking but most productive flies you can use in still or slow moving waters.
There are no prizes for guessing how the fly got its name, once you see the fly, and also no prizes for those who think that these flies are sometimes called "Dolly Parton's".  The combination of its bobbing action as the foam beads of the head struggle to lift the fly, and the seductive wriggle of the marabou tail often proves irresistible to trout. But it is one of the most misunderstood flies being used in New Zealand today.  More

Remarkable Catches!

When Captain Jim Lewis entered the offshore waters of the Bahamas, he had no intention of catching a shark.  Planning to snorkel, he had left his fishing gear back at the dock.  The shark - the largest hammerhead shark Capt. Lewis had ever seen - was swimming in a narrow swift-water channel only fifteen feet deep.  He decided to land the shark with the boat's anchor.  After many attempts, he succeeded in landing the behemoth shark which, at 1,600 pounds, was almost twice the size of the world-record.  It also had a 110-pound lemon shark in its belly.  Read more about this and other fish stories in Shaun Morey's book Incredible Fishing Stories, Vol. I available at your local bookstore or

  Double Catch?

In the 1940's, Ernie Gibbs caught a most unusual trout in one of New York's famed Finger Lakes.  Gibbs, bait fishing in Keuka Lake, caught a healthy 17 1/2 inch double-mouthed trout.  Both mouths were properly formed and both were capable of ingesting food.  The fish also had two sets of gills, although the upper set of gills were fused shut by skin.  A photograph of the remarkable catch appeared in the local Elmira Star-Gazette.  Read more about this and other fish stories in Shaun Morey's book Incredible Fishing Stories, Vol. I available at your local bookstore or click here!

Craighead's "fish" that got away!
Grueling Battle

For more than thirty years, Dr. John Craighead has been one of the world's leading experts on bears.  So when an Alaskan brown bear emerged from the forest near where Craighead was fishing, he thought nothing of it.  But then the hooked salmon he was fighting started to jump, causing the bear to plunge into the water and take the fish in its mouth.  "I had the bear on my line for about thirty seconds or more," Craighead said.  "But of course there was nothing I could do."  The bear clambered up the bank of the river and entered the heavy brush, breaking off Craighead's fishing line!
